22 Jul 2017

Former British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes OBE has been voted on to the FINA Bureau at the international federation’s General Congress in Budapest.

Delegates from 176 National Federations voted in the new FINA Bureau for the period 2017-2021 and Sparkes, who stood down as British Swimming CEO last month, becomes the first British appointment to that Bureau for nearly 50 years.

Sparkes, who spent 23 years as CEO and is General Secretary of European federation LEN, joins the FINA Bureau of 25 members.

"I am delighted to join the FINA Bureau and I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve our sport and to build strong governance in FINA."
