Young SPOTY Top 3 revealed

19 Oct 2018

BBC Sport has today revealed the top three shortlisted athletes for the Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

Swimmer Freya Anderson joins Kare Adenegan of Para-Athletics and jockey James Bowen in the running for the coveted BBC award.

After finding out she had made the final three, Anderson said, “It means a lot to be shortlisted for Young SPOTY. Its great being recognised in this way after a busy season.

“It’s also really good to see swimming recognised and regardless of the result on Sunday I hope it will inspire some of the younger swimmers to know that they can transition into the senior ranks and have success.”

The winner is due to be announced this Sunday at the Radio One Teen Awards at Wembley Arena in London.

European champion para-swimmer Maisie Summers-Newton missed out on place in the top three after making the 10-strong initial shortlist.
