2019 Summer Meets Information

7 Mar 2019

The Qualifying Window for the British Summer Championships and the Home Nation summer meets will open on Friday 22nd March 2019 and run through to Monday 27th May 2019.

The British Summer Championships and the three home nation summer meets continue to form part of the broader Performance Pathway Strategy aimed at supporting the UK’s junior swimming talent on their journey towards senior medal-winning international performances.

Entry to these key end of season events is by invitation only, from performances recorded in the designated Qualifying Window. The 24 top ranked swimmers in each event in each age grouping will be invited to attend the British Summer Championships, except for the 800m and 1500m events where the top 18 will be invited.

Entries will be accepted from competitors registered as members of a British Swimming home nation federation (Swim England, Scottish Swimming or Swim Wales).

HOME NATION MEET CHOICE

British Swimming are again providing an opportunity for athletes to indicate their Home Nation choice for this season’s summer meets.

Swimmers should note that when identifying qualifiers for the Home Nations meets, the automated system in place assumes athletes wish to be categorised by the country of their ranked club, unless you have previously notified us otherwise. If you are in doubt of your current choice then please contact us at HNMeetChoice@swimming.org

If swimmers wish instead to be invited on the basis of their country of international representation then individuals must email HNMeetChoice@swimming.org with their name, date of birth, membership number, current ranked club and registered Country of Representation.  They must clearly state their wish to be ranked by their country of International Representation in relation to the Home Nation Summer Meets. This request needs to be made no later than midnight on 1st May 2019. No changes will be made beyond this point.

INTERIM RANKINGS LISTS

This year we will be publishing weekly rankings list once the Qualifying Window opens. A final draft rankings list will be produced on 29th May 2019, once the Window has closed. This final check will allow for any corrections. If you believe any of the data contained in these interim lists is incorrect, you are asked to report it by emailing  britishevents@swimming.org

OPTING OUT

We are taking a dual approach to opting out this year. The idea behind the opt-out is to ensure that as many of the available places at the British Summer Championships are filled, with no empty spaces in events. We are asking athletes who do not wish to compete in events to withdraw, to ensure that others can be invited to the British Summer Championships and the respective Home Nation summer meets. The final definitive list of summer meet entries will be formalised on 2nd June 2019, with invites to follow.

If you wish to opt out of the invite list, can you please email HNMeetChoice@swimming.org

ENTRY MECHANISM

As a further development this year, there will be a short window of 13 days for swimmers to accept their initial invites to compete at the British Summer Championships. If by 14th June, you have not entered the event, your invite will be passed down to the next highest ranked swimmer to fill your place.

IT IS IMPERATIVE IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE AT THE BRITISH SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND RECEIVE AN INVITE ON 2nd JUNE,  THAT YOU CONFIRM YOUR ENTRIES BY 14th JUNE 2019.

There will then be a secondary entry when new invites are sent out to fill any remaining places.

Further reminders of key dates and milestones will be posted in due course.

The 2019 British Summer Championships will be held from 23rd to 28th  July at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow – more details of the event can be found here
