Closing out the calendar year of international swimming competition, the European Short Course Swimming Championships will take place from 2nd-7th December at the Aqua Lublin aquatics complex in Poland.
Freya Anderson, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott each enter the championships with titles to prospectively defend, while teammates Freya Colbert, Luke Greenbank, Oliver Morgan and Katie Shanahan return for successive editions of the championships having stepped onto the podium as Great Britain topped the medal table in 2023.
Following their gold medals respectively at junior and U23 competitions in the summer, Filip Nowacki and Jack Skerry have been selected to join a group which otherwise all competed at the 2025 Singapore World Aquatics Championships – with this a first British senior callup for Nowacki, while Skerry will look to add to his experience of competing at the 2024 European Championships in Belgrade.
Tom Dean and Max Litchfield were among the medallists when these championships came to British soil in 2019 – Litchfield taking Men’s 400m Individual Medley gold in Glasgow – and alongside Greg Butler, Lauren Cox, Angharad Evan, Jack McMillan, Eva Okaro and Emily Richards complete the British cohort that will aim to sharpen their racing skills in the build towards next summer’s priority events.
Reflecting on team selections and looking ahead to the competition, Aquatics GB Swimming Head Coach, Steven Tigg said:
“We’re looking forward to taking a strong group of experienced athletes, along with some that are new to our senior team for the European Short Course in Poland.
“After a strong summer, particularly for our pathway, there was healthy competition for places with many athletes demonstrating a desire to participate.
“This meet plays an important role in refining skills and exposing athletes to international competition in short course cycle. We will use it to build on our learning from last season in order to be best prepared for our long course priorities of Commonwealth Games and Europeans.”
Live streaming will be available for free on Eurovision Sport platforms, with all latest event details published on the European Aquatics website.
