Jack Burnell swam to an early season victory in the 10km race of the Madeira Island International Swim Marathon in Portugal.
The Loughborough-based swimmer, who finished sixth at the European Championships this summer, is showing his continued development in open water swimming.
Burnell touched the board in 1:56:35.72 to win the race ahead of Germany's Andreas Waschburger and France's European 25km open water champion Axel Reymond.
"It was a good race, and there was some ripple current but I managed to detach myself from the pack and go a long way," said Burnell.
Nice race today out in Portugal, not 100% fit but managed to get the win! Love the people out here, great support! 😊👍 pic.twitter.com/expNqvlpPC
