Day four heats sets up exciting finals

Day four heats of the British Summer Championships 2018 played host to some great racing and sets up an exciting finals session that includes relays.

Tobermory Mackay-Champion headed up the 19 and over age group at the close of the Men’s 200m Breaststroke heats and Gregory Butler of the City of Derby was the man on top of the 17/18 years category.

Millfield School saw William Mitchell take to the water in the 16 years age group of the Men’s 200m Breaststroke and he posted a time that secured him the lane four berth to contest the medals.

The 15-year-old age final will see Billy Wotton of the City of Oxford swimming club lead the field out as he posted the quickest heats swim of the morning.

Northampton SC continues to have a strong meet as Harvey Freeman topped the 13/14 years age group and will look to repeat the process in tonight’s title-deciding swim.

Hannah Burvil of Woking stopped the clock almost 0.2 seconds ahead of her nearest rival and ranked top in the 19/Over age group of the Women’s 100m Freestyle.

Stockport Metro’s Elizabeth Harris completed the opening leg of her clubs win in the Women’s 17/Over 4x200m Free relay and she was back in action on day four where she posted a new lifetime best of 56.55, the quickest 17/18 year old to go in search of the title.

She claimed 16 years 50m free gold and now Derby’s Sophie Yendell is in pole position to contest the same event over one hundred metres. Caroline Lewitt of Natare West London will return to lead out from lane four the 15 years final.

Fresh from her relay win last night, Nova Centurion’s Freya Colbert was the fastest lady in the 13/14 years age group of the 100m Freestyle.

Pembrokeshire’s Rhys Davies (SM14) took to the water again, he claimed a 100m back gold earlier in the week, this time he was the top-ranked athlete in the Men’s MC 200m Individual Medley with a total of 803 points.

Just 35 points separated SM6 swimmers Grace Harvey of Hoddesdon and Eleanor Simmonds of Camden Swiss Cottage at the close of the Women’s MC 200m Individual Medley, with Harvey the victor, a total of 862 points for her.

The Men’s 100m Butterfly saw 11 heats to decide the finalists for the five age group medal contests, the City of Manchester Aquatics swimmer Sam Horrocks topped the pile in the 19/Over age group.

Lewis Fraser of Swansea Aquatics will take control of the 17/18 years age group final, as will Royal Wolverhampton School’s Matthew Richards in the 16 years final after he lowered his PB to 55.39.

Edward Mildred (Northampton) and Michael Klimaszewski (Hatfield) will each go in search of yet another medal in the 15 years and 13/14 year age group finals respectively.

Jennifer King of East Kilbride swimming club was the fastest athlete in the 19/Over age group of the Women’s 200m Backstroke.

In her home pool, Lily Boseley of the City of Sheffield swim squad booked herself into lane four of the 17/18 years final, with Pia Murry of Ellesmere College doing the same over in the 16 years title swim.

Honey Osrin of Plymouth Leander will return for the 15 years final tonight after she set a laid down a marker and a lead of more than 2.5 seconds of the next fastest finisher.

City of Glasgow swim team’s Katie Shanahan will lead out the field from lane four in the 13/14 years 200m Backstroke.

Lewis White (S9) of the City of Derby posted a time of 26.66 in the Men’s MC 50m Freestyle and amassed a point’s total of 837. He will return as the favourite for the final later today.

Over in the Women’s MC 50m Freestyle, New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe (S10) touched home for a time of 28.57 which earnt her 879 points and will take the centre lane to contest the medals.

It was the turn of the men in the 4x200m Freestyle relay, 26 quartets challenged for a lane in the final of the 14/16 years final and the team from the City of Peterborough will lead the charge for the medals.

Millfield School were the top team in the 17/Over age group heats of the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle relay and will be looking to complete the process and secure the gold medal this evening.
