Commonwealth Games England has announced their full aquatics line up of 39 swimmers and 15 divers for Glasgow.
In the swimming team, Commonwealth champion Fran Halsall, who secured five medals in Delhi, will be joined by the likes of Paralympic Champion Ollie Hynd, double Commonwealth Champion Liam Tancock as well as a large number of athletes who will experience a Commonwealth Games for the first time.
Team Leader for England’s swimmers in Glasgow, Dawn Peart, said: “I’m excited about England’s prospects given the balance of experienced swimmers and newcomers on the team.
“Competition in Glasgow promises to very strong with representations from Scotland and Wales together with major challengers from Australia, Canada and South Africa. This should give rise to some exciting races and we will work hard as a team to make England proud.”
This year’s diving squad is one of the largest ever put forward by Team England. It includes Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley who won two gold medals in the 2010 Games in Delhi, as well as Olympic finalists Tonia Couch, Sarah Barrow and Chris Mears.
“I am really excited about the chance to compete at my second Commonwealth Games,” Daley said in an interview. “Delhi was a great experience and to come home with two gold medals was a dream come true.
“I think Glasgow will be an amazing host for the Games and know they will put on a great show. I want to go into the competition and try to retain my title. The Games are a great chance to get yourself into a multi-sport mindset just two years ahead of the Olympics.”
