Siobhan-Marie O’Connor claimed four gold medals as British swimmers took the Berlin International Swimming Meet by storm.
The British Gas GBR National Performance Centre Bath swimmer lifted her first title with a personal best 2:10.35 effort for gold in the 200m Individual Medley, just 0.12 off Sophie Allen’s English record.
She added two more golds with PBs in the 50m Butterfly (26.45) and 100m Butterfly (58.81) before a fourth victory – also in a PB – in the 100m Freestyle (55.16).
Adam Peaty – who, like O’Connor, will be looking to seal a spot on the England team for his first Commonwealth Games at next month’s British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow – also impressed in Berlin with lifetime bests for double gold.
The 19-year old was just 0.11 seconds shy of Dan Sliwinski’s British record as he touched in 27.51 for victory in the 50m Breaststroke, then backed that performance up by ducking under the minute for the second time in his career for gold over 100m Breaststroke, ultimately clocking 59.90.
Peaty also claimed bronze in the 200m Breaststroke, finishing in 2:12.24 with Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson taking silver on 2:11.55 behind Germany’s Marco Koch (2:08.84).
Among the other Brits in action in Berlin, Lizzie Simmonds, Molly Renshaw and Chris Walker-Hebborn all walked away with double gold.
Simmonds clocked her fastest time since finishing fourth at the London 2012 Olympic Games as she claimed the 200m Backstroke in 2:08.91, then doubled up with a 1:00.81 effort over the 100m Back.
Renshaw lifted the 100m and 200m Breaststroke titles, clocking the second fastest time of her career for victory in the former in 1:09.51 as well as securing the longer distance title in 2:29.35.
Walker-Hebborn showed his form with a 54.15 effort for gold in the 100m Backstroke before claiming a second title with a personal best 50.29 in the 100m Freestyle.
