GBR Juniors sign off with Silver

The final night of the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships saw a further four medals for Great Britain including a relay silver.

The junior British Swimming team signed off in Hungary with silver in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle relay. The relay quartet of Freya Anderson, Hannah Featherstone, Tazmin Pugh and Holly Hibbott clinched the final medal for the Brits behind the home nation team of Hungary who took gold and ahead of the team who took bronze from Russia.

Anna Maine took to the pool to seal a bronze in the Women’s 100m Backstroke final. Maine joined Maryna Kolesnykova of Ukraine (silver) and Tania Quaglieri of Italy (gold) on the podium.

Oxford-based David Murphy lined up in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke and added another bronze to the British tally. Italians Federico Poggio with silver and Nicolo Martienghi with gold joined Murphy on the podium. 

The third British solo medallist of the night was Thomas Fannon, he clinched a bronze medal in the Men’s 50m Freestyle.

The splash and dash lap of the Hódmezővásárhely pool saw Fannon seal the medal behind Croatia’s Bruno Blaskovic who took silver and Italy’s Giovanni Izzo who went home with gold.

The British team closed the Championships with a total of 19 medals (five gold, four silver and ten bronze) and were ranked third in the overall medal table.
