James Guy set about softening the blow of losing team mate Fran Halsall through injury when he posted a new British Record to qualify third fastest for tonight’s final of the 400m Freestyle at the World Championships in Doha.
The British Gas GBR Swimming Team woke on day three to news that sprinter Halsall had been withdrawn from the championships as a precaution due to a shoulder issue. But it didn't stop another strong heat session for the team which saw Guy leading the way. He touched home in 3:39.58 to better the previous standard of 3:40.22 set by Robbie Renwick in 2008.
Adam Barrett joined Mark Foster and Antony James when he equalled the jointly-held British Record in the 50m Butterfly. Barratt swam 22.87 to book a place in the semi-finals. Chris Walker-Hebborn will also return to the Hamad Aquatic Centre tonight as he secured a place in the semi-finals of the 50m Backstroke as fifth fastest.
Jazz Carlin followed up her 800m Freestyle silver with a fifth place finish in the heats of the 400m Freestyle to claim a spot in tonight's final while Sophie Taylor and Adam Peaty both swam personal best times but were unable to progress in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events respectively.
