Loughborough take 2015 BUCS title

Swimmers from Loughborough University took overall victory at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships after three days of action at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Loughborough finished with 357 points ahead of University of Bath in second and University of Edinburgh in third.

Double Commonwealth Champion Ben Proud (University of St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth) was among the standout performers of the meet as he produced new championship records in the 50m Freestyle and Butterfly.

Paralympic gold medallist and guest swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate clocked a time of 1:08.13 minutes to smash the previous S14 100m Butterfly world record.

BUCS records also fell to Aimee Willmott from the University of East London in the women’s 200m Butterfly and Stirling’s Cameron Brodie in the men’s 200m Butterfly.

Loughborough trio Andrew Weatheritt, Rachael Kelly and Adam Barrett all set new BUCS records en route to winning the men’s 50m Breaststroke, women’s 100m Butterfly and Men’s 100m Butterfly respectively while Wilmott also set a new championship record in the 400m IM.

Edinburgh’s Olivia White won the women’s 200m Breaststroke in a championship record time.
