Marathon swimming quartet ready for Olympic qualifier

17 Jun 2021

Britain's top marathon swimmers are ready to go in search of a Tokyo 2020 ticket as they compete in this weekend's FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier in Setubal, Portugal.

Alice Dearing  and Danielle Huskisson are two of a 47-strong field in the Women's 10km event on Saturday (19th June), before Hector Pardoe and Tobias Robinson contest the Men's 10km event on Sunday (20th June), with the field set to exceed 60 competitors from 38 nations.

Pardoe heads into the meet after a promising couple of results earlier in 2021, placing seventh over the 10km distance in the Marathon Swim World Series leg in Doha in March, before crossing eighth at last month's European Championships. Robinson was in action there, while Dearing and Huskisson both competed at that earlier Doha meet, with Dearing faring well to place 12th.

The nine highest-placed athletes in each event will qualify an Olympic quota place for their respective nation, with each nation only able to qualify one place per event. After that, the highest-placed athlete from each continent will qualify a place. Should a nation already have one or two qualified spots, the next highest-ranked athlete from the same continent who has not yet qualified will secure a spot.
