Open Water athletes head to Mallorca

21 May 2014

Britain’s Open Water stars have headed to Mallorca to take part in a training camp ahead of this summer’s competitions.

A team of 24 junior and senior British and England Talent athletes will take part in the eight day Open Water Development and Senior Camp including Tom Allen, Jack Burnell and Keri-anne Payne.

As well as daily training sessions in the pool and sea there will be a focus on race preparation, nutrition and skills with the more experienced athletes sharing their experiences of competing at international competitions.

The athletes will also take part in a time trial and the 5km and 7km BEST Fest Meets.

Open Water Swimming Lead Bernie Dietzig said: “This Camp is a good opportunity for our athletes to train together in a new environment, sharing experiences and training methods.

“By holding training sessions in both the pool and open water the athletes will have a variety of conditions to cope with which will help prepare them for competitions.

“For some of the junior athletes this will be their first experience of open water swimming and it will be a great opportunity for them to learn from the senior members of the team.”

In a change to previous years the camp is being held earlier to help athletes prepare for a packed summer schedule which includes National, European and World championships.
