Pavoni calls time on swimming career

Olympian and European Silver medallist Roberto Pavoni has called time on his swimming career that has seen him compete at every international level of the sport.

Pavoni began swimming when he was six-years old and competed at his first international event aged just 16-years old - the European Youth Olympic Festival in Belgrade.

In 2010 he moved to the National Centre, Loughborough where he was coached by Kevin Renshaw and qualified for the Olympics in 2012.

In 2014 he won silver in the 200m Individual Medley and added to his medal tally with bronze in the 400m Individual Medley.

On his retirement he said: “I have made the decision to retire from my competitive swimming career and would like to say a special ‘thank you’, from the bottom of my heart, to all those who have been involved in helping me to achieve more than I had ever imagined possible.

“I am excited to now move into coaching where I realise that I have the same passion as I had for my own career.”

National Performance Director Chris Spice commented: “I want to congratulate Roberto on his career and thank him for his dedication to the sport. He was a great role model for all those that saw the way he trained and competed and often set the example for others to follow.

“On behalf of everyone at British Swimming I want to wish him good luck for the next chapter in his career and hope he is successful in his future endeavours.”
