Payne wins Marathon World Cup

Beijing Olympic silver medallist Keri-anne Payne has won the FINA Marathon World Cup in Hong Kong.

Payne was competing in a packed field of 41 including World bronze medallist Ana Marcela Cunha (Brazil) and world fifth place Poliana Okimoto (Brazil) and she battled through to take the victory.

The Warrender Baths swimmer won the last World Cup of the series and will now continue working towards sealing qualification for the Rio Olympic Games next year. 

"That was a great result for me today," Payne said. "This is the last race of the season and I swam through the summer to make sure it was a good one and it was. Always a fight to the finish but it's nice to come out with the win."

Jack Burnell was competing in a field of 51 and was lying in a medal position throughout the race but after a knock as he came into the finish and touched in fourth place just missing out on a medal.
