Peaty Shortlisted for SPOTY Award

29 Nov 2016

Olympic Champion Adam Peaty has been announced as a contender for the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for a historic third year in a row – and now needs your backing in recognising another history making year for the swimmer.

This year’s shortlist was announced during the BBC’s The One Show with SPOTY presenter Gabby Logan revealing the top 16 contenders for the award.

The 2016 season saw Peaty become the first British male gold medallist in the pool at an Olympic Games for 28 years as he claimed victory over 100m breaststroke in Rio at this summer’s Olympic Games.

Earlier in the year he defended each of his continental titles at the LEN European Aquatics Championships and last month he was named Best Swimming and Overall Athlete of the Year at the British Swimming Awards in London.

People can show their support for Adam by voting on the night via the phone or online during the programme which will be screened on BBC One, with further coverage on BBC Radio 5 live and the BBC Sport website.

Signing in with your BBCiD or registering will let you vote for the Sports Personality of the Year Award on 18 December.
