Quartet selected for Marathon Swimming European Champs

22 May 2025

Paris Olympians Hector Pardoe and Leah Crisp are named as part of a British foursome competing at the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Championships in Croatia.

The 21st edition of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Championships is being held in Stari Grad, on the island of Hvar, Croatia, from 28th to 31st May 2025 - a landmark return to the origins of the competition, as Stari Grad hosted the inaugural championships in 1989.

For the British team of Leah Crisp, Ella Dyson, Hector Pardoe and Sean McCann the focus in Croatia is solely on the Women’s and Men’s 10km events on the opening day of competitive action.

Since their involvement in last summer’s iconic Olympic race in the river Seine, Crisp and Pardoe have both contested marathon swimming events at legs of the 2025 World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup series – with Crisp also a Women’s 1500m Freestyle bronze medallist at April’s Aquatics GB Swimming Championships – as the pair prepare for their first major championships race since the Paris 2024 Games.

Dyson and McCann however will both be making their senior international debut when they step onto the starting pontoon in a British cap next week. Dyson approaches the championships on the back of a top-five finish earlier this month at the European Aquatics Open Water Cup in Protaras, Cyprus, while McCann has the opportunity to test himself against top-level marathon swimmers a year on from acquiring multiple medals at the Best Fest Open Water festival he attended as a member of the Scottish Swimming Open Water Development Squad.

Extended details of the European Championships, including results and live streaming can be found on the European Aquatics website.
