Relay thriller to close day three in Sheffield

The Women’s 4x200m Freestyle relay finals served up a treat to bring the third night of racing in Sheffield to a close.

Nova Centurion A were to the team on top after 16 laps under ponds forge spotlights in the 14/16 years age group final.

Dominant from the starters signal the quartet built their lead as the race developed to touch more than three seconds ahead of silver medallists City of Peterborough. Bronze was claimed by the quartet from Mount Kelly.

In the 17/Over age group final the winning team were the quartet from Stockport Metro who had clear water behind them at the touch. Commonwealth medallist Holly Hibbott brought the race the home for the greater Manchester team.

Silver went to the local team, the City of Sheffield A and Wycombe District A took bronze.

Men’s 1500m Free

Millfield’s Kieran Bird stopped the clock in a time of 15:38.52 to take almost eight seconds of his best time and claimed the gold in the 19/Over 1500m final.

Samuel Budd (City of Sheffield) finished for silver and William Riley of Bath University touched for bronze.

Nathan Hughes of Hatfield SC was first to the touch in the fastest heat in a time of 15.36.29 to take the win for 17/18 years age group.

Gold in the 16 years age group went to the City of Leicester swimmer William Bell in an improved lifetime best of 15:39.59.

Charley Langford of Thanet Swim led was the top ranked 15 year old after all eight heats of the 1500m and took the gold.

Shiverers swimmer Ellijah Kendrick reduced his PB by more than 15 seconds to take the win and summer championship title in the 13/14 year age group, his time 16:48.96.

Women’s MC 100m Freestyle

Para-Swimming National Performance Centre athlete Alice Tai (S8) collected her second gold of the meet. Tai’s time of 1:03.97 after two laps of the ponds forge pool in the Women’s MC 100m Freestyle gave her a point’s total of 1048 and was just off world record pace.

New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe (S10) touched for silver, her point’s total was 923 and Grace Harvey (S6), swimming for Hoddesdon, scored 916 for the bronze medal.

Men’s MC 100m Freestyle

Commonwealth silver medallist, Lewis White (S9) of the City of Derby stopped the clock in a time of 57.26 for 847 points and the victory.

Sunderland-based Stephen Clegg (S12) amassed a total of 782 points and Jonathan Booth (S9) who swims for Borough of Kirklees achieved 759 points, silver and bronze respectively for them.

Women’s 200m Butterfly

Plymouth Leander’s Laura Stephens claimed her third gold of the week so far in the 19/Over age group and in doing so lowered her lifetime best to 2:10.37 for the 200m Butterfly.

Keanna Macinnes representing Heart of Midlothian sealed her first win of the week in the 17/18 years age group and over in 16 years final it was the fastest qualifier from the heats, Gaia Alcaras of Aberdeen Performance carried through her form to take the win in a PB of 2:15.83.

Fleur Lewis of Barnet Copthall SC took control of the race from the start and took the win from lane four in the 15 years final, she also stopped the clock in a new best time of 2:16.26.

Colchester’s Sophie Freeman secured herself the gold in the 13/14 years age group of the 200m Butterfly.

Men’s 100m Freestyle

Jack Thorpe of Edinburgh University took full advantage of his lane four berth and powered home and secured the win in the 19/Over years category.

Harry Constantine of Hatfield served up a blistering swim and bagged himself centre position on the 17/18 years podium. He touched in a time of 49.99, a new personal best.

A PB of 50.57 was required by Matthew Richards of Royal Wolverhampton School to seal himself the win in the 16 years age group.

He was joined on the summer champs podium by Millfield’s Huw Williams and Reid Jones of Plymouth Leander, they took silver and bronze respectively.

In the 15 years age group Northampton’s Edward Mildred claimed himself another 2018 British Summer Championships. Ned Sharp of Skipton took the silver and Jamie Hanss of the City of Milton Keynes has to settle for bronze.

Derventio’s Jacob Whittle took to the pool in lane four after breaking the 13 years Men’s 100m Freestyle British age group record in the heats and claimed gold.

Guildford City’s Joshua Shaw touched the wall for silver and Aiden Symons-Brown of Devonport completed his swim third for the bronze.

Women’s MC 100m Breaststroke

Brock Whiston of Barking and Dagenham sealed herself the gold medal with a total of 913 points and in doing so broke the British SB9 100m Breaststroke record, her winning time 1:16.02.

S14 swimmer Louise Fiddes of Hatfield scored 911 for silver and Worcester swimmer Rebecca Redfern (S13) was finished third with 880 points.

Men’s MC 100m Breaststroke

Wycombe Districts Tyler Ioannou (S14) was top of the pile in the Men’s MC 100m Breaststroke final, his time of 1:10.91, a new personal best, earnt him a point’s total of 818.

He was flanked on the podium by silver medallist Gavin Roberts (S14) of the City of Glasgow and bronze medallist Jack Milne (S14), who swims for the City of Dundee Aquatics club.

Women’s 50m Freestyle

The Women’s 50m Freestyle 19/Over age group old medal went to Loughborough University’s Emily Barclay, she came into the final as the fastest qualifier and improved on her time again, 24.94 at the touch.

Alicia Wilson set a best time of 25.84 in the 17/18 years age group final, and in doing so the Guildford City swimmer secured herself the gold medal and title.

City of Derby’s Sophie Yendell came out on top in the 16 years final of the single lap splash and dash of the ponds forge pool, with Anaconda swimmer Elena Dewhurst was the victor in the 15 years final.

Tamryn Van Selm of Bromley moved her race performance on, she set a new PB in the heats and qualified quickest for the 13/14 years final, only to reduce her time further to 26.27 and wrapped up win.

Men’s 400m Individual Medley

National Centre Loughborough swimmer Joe Litchfield served a swim of two halves in the 19/Over final of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley. He established an early lead over the field on the fly leg only to drop off the pace and then came back on the freestyle leg to take the victory.

Nathan Hughes of Hatfield rounded off a busy night of racing as he completed his second podium-topping swim. Off the back of his 1500m gold, he returned to the water and secured the same colour medal in the 400m IM in the 17/18 years event.

Charlie Hutchison who swims for Ellesmere College bagged himself the medley win in the 16 years age group final, he concluded his race with almost a 14 second lead over the rest of field.

Edward Mildred of Northampton guaranteed himself his second trip to the podium on the third night of finals action, he reached the wall first in the 15 years final for the gold.

Ellesmere College claimed yet another podium finish in Sheffield as George Smith won gold in the 13/14 years 400m Individual Medley final.
