The third heats session of the British Summer Championships 2018 was dominated by medallists of the opening two days of competition.
Fresh from claiming gold in last night’s MC 100m Backstroke, Alice Tai (S8) was back in action, this time in the Women’s MC 100m Freestyle heats where she topped the board after two heats.
Her point’s total of 931 secured her lane four for the podium decider this evening. New Zealand’s multi-Paralympic champion Sophie Pascoe (S10) ranked second with 895 points, with Hoddesdon’s S6 swimmer Grace Harvey completing the top three with 859 points.
At the end of the Men’s MC 100m Freestyle heats it was the City of Derby’s Lewis White (S9) who was top of the pile, his point’s total of 826 securing him the centre lane in the final.
Laura Stephens of Plymouth Leander continued to demonstrate her current form as she ranked first in the 19/Over years age group of the Women’s 200m Butterfly heats.
City of Leeds swimmer Ciara Schlosshan stopped the clock at 2:13.61 and is the fastest qualifier in the 17/18 years category returning for the final.
In the 16 years age group Gaia Alcaras of Aberdeen Performance was just 0.4 of a second off her best 200m fly time, as she leads the rankings in search of the medals tonight.
Charlotte Robinson of the City of Leeds set the heats pace for the 15 years event and line up behind the lane four block later today and Colchester’s Sophie Freeman will lead of the 13/14 years final.
Edinburgh University swimmer Jack Thorpe served up a strong morning heats swim in the Men’s 100m Freestyle and is the number one ranked 19/Over swimmer.
It was a new best time for Harry Constantine of Hatfield in the 17/18 years age group, lane four will be his for the summer championships title-deciding swim this evening.
The Royal Wolverhampton School’s Matthew Richards delivered his best 100m free swim to date, he posted a time of 51.52 and will lead out the field for the 16-year-old final.
With multiple trips to the podium so far this week in Sheffield, Edward Mildred of Northampton SC was back at his best to top the 15 years age group with a new PB of 52.67.
Derventio’s Jacob Whittle was the athlete in control of the 13/14-year-old rankings another best swim of 53.79 for him.
100m Breaststroke was next on the MC programme and in the women’s event it was Brock Whiston (SB9) of Barking and Dagenham that amassed the most points, her total of 837 makes her the favourite to top the podium this evening.
Close behind were Louise Fiddes (SB14) of Hatfield with 833 points and SB13 Rebecca Redfern of Worcester with 825 points.
Over in the Men’s MC 100m Breaststroke, it was the City of Glasgow’s Gavin Roberts (SB14) who stopped the clock first in a field dominated by the intellectual impairment classification, his time of 1:12.54 gave him a total of 764 points.
Dundee City Aquatics swimmer Jack Milne touched second for 726 points and third was Rotherham’s Joseph Seage with 705.
Loughborough University’s Emily Barclay posted the quickest time of the morning in the Women’s 50m Freestyle 19/Over heats, her 25.04 booked her the preferred lane four to contest the medals.
Laura McNab of Team Bath is the 17/18 years leader after the heats with a new lifetime best swim of 26.16 and in the 16 years age group the City of Derby’s Sophie Yendell touched fastest.
Anaconda swimmer Elena Dewhurst required a sub 27 swim to top the 15 years age group of the Women’s 50m Freestyle and in the 13/14 years age group Bromley’s Tamryn Can Selm required a new best time of 26.71.
The final individual event of the morning on day three was the Men’s 400m IM and Bath University’s Jacob Greenow set down a marker in the 19/Over years age group.
Hatfield’s Nathan Hughes delivered the fastest heats swim of the morning in the 17/18 years 400m Individual Medley.
Charlie Hutchison of Ellesmere College will take command of the 16 years final, he posted a time more than eight seconds quicker than his closest rival.
Pierce Greening who swims for Cockermouth squeezed ahead to be ranked top in the 15 years category, just 0.72 of second separating him from the number two finisher.
Ellesmere College swimmer George Smith will take control of the 13/14 years final after he posted a personal best time of 4:45.34 in his heat.
Three heats of the 14/16 years 4x200m Freestyle relay saw 30 quartets battle it out for just 10 spots in tonight’s final and Nova Centurion A came out on top. Their time of 8:33.00 more than two seconds ahead of the next fastest team.
In the Women’s 17/Over 4x200m Freestyle Stockport Metro was the top-ranked relay team and will lead the charge for medals in the tonight’s session closer.
