The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will see eleven days of world-class sport, celebration and culture. Here's your go-to guide to see you through the event down under including how to keep up with all the action at the Optus Aquatics Centre.

Coverage:

The BBC will be covering over 200hrs of live content for your viewing pleasure.

Daily TV coverage will run from 12 am across BBC One, BBC Two and Red Button. There will also be coverage on BBC Four throughout the day, as well as a highlights show on BBC Two.

BBC Radio 5 live will have a breakfast show and live commentary of all the action.

Further coverage will also be available on demand across the BBC Sport website, app and BBC iPlayer. The BBC Red Button will provide around-the-clock schedule of live and catch-up programming throughout the games.

Australia's Gold Coast:

The City of Gold Coast is located in the middle of Australia's eastern coastline and just over an hours drive south of Brisbane. It is a major tourist destination with a sunny subtropical climate and world famous surfing beaches.

The time difference between the UK and the Gold Coast is +10 hours so if you're planning on catching the morning sessions of diving and swimming you better get those alarms set.

Optus Aquatics Centre

The Optus Aquatic Centre is a public swimming pool complex located in the Southport Broadwater Parklands on the Gold Coast, Queensland which originally opened in the 1960s.

In 2013 the complex underwent a $40 million redevelopment that saw the addition new pool space including of a new 50m x 25 m Olympic standard competition pool.

Athlete and Village Life:

Village in numbers

More than 6,600 athletes and team officials will the athlete village their home for the eleven days of Commonwealth Games competition - here's a sneak peek at the facilities that will be available to them:

  • Housing - situated on 29 hectares, including seven hectares of open parklands, the Village features 18 new buildings; housing 1,252 dwellings - that's 1,170 apartments and 82 townhouses.

  • Facilities - Six iconic Queensland zones (Beach, Outback, Rainforest, Reef, Sunset and Surf) will accommodate athletes and officials and offer services such as laundry, refreshments and TV and computer spaces and four, yes four residential pools. It also features a number of arcade games, pool tables and game consoles, the athletes are set to enjoy some friendly competition in their downtime.
