Clark and Federici Secure Ninth in Tech Duet

13 May 2016

Great Britain’s duet of Katie Clark and Olivia Federici finished ninth in the Technical Final in the penultimate synchro event of the LEN European Aquatics Championships 2016.

The pair achieved their best score of the season in the tech event as they surpassed 80 points to record a final score of 80.4751.

They achieved their correction of timing on their first element as their spin was perfectly executed and they built on the performance from there.

Spurred on by a noisy home crowd, the pair performed their routine to Mint Royale’s ‘Singing in the rain’ which demonstrated impressive strength and progression since their return to the pool last year.

Clark said: “We’re really happy with the score, we’ve still got a lot to improve on for the next few months but we’re definitely improving at every competition.

“It’s really encouraging to see that score creep up past the 80 threshold.

“The crowd were great again this morning, walk on and having that noise gives you a great feeling and you know it’s going to be a good swim. Having that support gives us lots of positive energy which is great for us,” added Federici.

The gold medal and European title went to Russia, the routine by Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina scored 95.1900

Silver was collected by Ukraine’s Loita Ananasova and Anna Voloshyna (91.7249) and bronze went to Linda Cerruti and Costanza Ferro of Italy (88.3564).

The final outing for the British Synchro team will be in the Team Free Final on the afternoon of day five in London.
