European Challenge awaits Synchro Juniors

The British Junior Synchronised Swimming team will head to Rijeka in Croatia for the European Junior Championships from the 22-26 June.

11 athletes have been selected to represent Great Britain with many making full international debuts.

The team also comprises of four athletes that recently competed in London at the LEN European Aquatics Championships; Kate Shortman, Isabelle Thorpe, Emma Critchely and Danielle Cooper who will bring important experience into the camp.

Karen Thorpe, Synchro Team Leader said: “The European Junior Synchro Championships in Croatia offers of a great opportunity for our national team to gain further international competition experience and put to the test the training and hard work.


“Within the team are a number of athletes that recently competed at the LEN European Championships in London including Emma Critchley, Danielle Cooper and junior duet partners Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe that will bring confidence to the camp.

“This event will also mean first international caps for some of the athletes including Hannah James, Celina Dembinska-Kenna and Claire Harris, placing them in these types of environments will only aid their development perform better under pressure.”

Shortman, the winner of the junior section at the Nationals back in April, will be the GB soloist, she will be joined by club mate Isabelle Thorpe to make up the GB duet.

The pair will face a strong competition as they hope to achieve a place in the final in these tough events and demonstrate their strength even though they are young.

Competition begins in Croatia on 22nd June.
