Federici Solo Free 10th

10 May 2016

Olivia Federici returned to the London pool in the Solo Free Final where she finished 10th for Great Britain at the European Aquatics Championships.

Federici looked comfortable throughout the routine where she recorded a point’s total of 82.0667 bettering her prelims score of 82.0333.

“It was a really good finals performance for me. I had good prelims swim but I wanted to show that I was free with my moves but highlight my control and execution at the same time, and I definitely feel I managed to demonstrate that,” said Federici.

Federici enjoyed competing in the event for the first time on an international stage, saying that it had been ‘new challenge’ and a ‘great learning opportunity’.

“I’ve never done the Solo internationally before so it’s been a great challenge for me, personally it’s been really exciting to push myself and see what more I can do,” added Federici.

Russia’s World Champion Natalia Ishchenko took the European honour with a score of 96.400 and was joined on the podium by Ukraine’s Anna Voloshyna (93.4000) and Italy’s Linda Cerruti (89.4333) in silver and bronze respectively.

Aldershot based Federici is looking forward to the rest week at the LEN European Aquatics Championships, with the British Synchro team competing in the full schedule of events. Next for Federici is the Duet Free Final tomorrow.

“Tomorrow I’ve got the Duet Free final with Katie [Clark] which I’m really looking forward to and we’ve got some improvements that we know we can bring to improve and make the routine stronger to reach scores in the 80’s hopefully.

“We’ve been training really hard so the team are looking forward to what the rest of the week can bring,” included Olivia.
