GB Duet Tech tenth

3 Aug 2018

Great Britain’s Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe finished tenth overall in the Duet Technical final.

After watching their teammates secure a place in the Team Free final on Sunday, Shortman and Thorpe took the Scotstoun pool and delivered a strong and focused routine.

Spurred on by a home crowd the pair posted a final score of 80.2820, just over 14 points off the 2018 European Championship winning duet from Russia of Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Varvara Subbotina with 95.1035.

“We’re really happy with how today has gone, it was a good score and it’s great to be representing Great Britain here in Glasgow.

“Our overall aim is to reach a final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and then be in a position to challenge for a medal in 2024.”

Team Leader Karen Thorpe said: "The competition is very tough but the girls swam well and are looking forward to finals tomorrow.

"The duet were really solid, but their last element could have been a bit better, but the others were world  class.

"Considering they have changed from junior to senior competition in five days against a field of seniors who have been training these elements all year we were very happy."

Silver was collected by Anastasiya Savchuk and Yelyzaveta Yakhno of Ukraine with 92.6188 points and the bronze went to Italy, represented by Linda Cerruti and Constanza Ferro, with 89.7519.
