Great Britain’s Artistic Swimming duet of Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe have posted a strong set of results at the Japanese leg of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series.

Shortman and Thorpe kick-started their schedule with the Tech Duet where they went up against 23 nations including Olympic champions Russia, who eventually went on to take World Series gold at the Tatsumi International Swimming Centre.

The British pair were ranked a strong seventh at the end of competition with a score of 83.2114, with only a six point difference between them and bronze medallists Italy.

Kate also went in Tech Solo on the opening day of competition in the Japanese capital and again finished seventh, her score 85.0956.

Being the youngest competitors did not deter them as they challenged the world class field with their ‘Heroes’ routine in the Duet Free. That secured them a tenth place finish with a final score of 84.1667.

With youth on their side, it stands them in good stead going into the LEN European Juniors in Kazan, Russia later this year.
