Beijing and Dubai challenge ahead for divers

9 Mar 2016

The British Diving Team will look to launch their FINA/NVC Diving World Series campaign in Beijing with the three-day competition beginning on 11 March.

Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley will be in action on day one with new synchro partner Dan Goodfellow and they compete for the first time on the World Series circuit before competing in the individual 10m Platform on the final day.

Double world bronze medallist Jack Laugher, who won the overall crown for 3m Springboard in 2015, will return to individual action after only doing the synchro at the World Cup in Rio last month.

He will also team up with Chris Mears who he secured bronze with at the 2015 World Championships.

Olympian Tonia Couch will compete in the 10m Platform individual and team up with Lois Toulson for the 10m Synchro.

The Team will then move on to compete in Dubai for the second leg which runs from 17 – 19 March.

National Performance Director Alexei Evangulov said: “The World Series in an Olympic year is vital for competition exposure ahead of the Games. We have a strong team travelling over there and all but two of them have won medals on the circuit before.

“To compete at this standard regularly allows the divers to be at their best when they need to be in the summer.

“This year is a big year for all of us and we grasp every opportunity to prepare which is why we are also using the European Championships as a vital competitive opportunity. It’ll be one of the biggest events on our calendar and to have it on home soil will be really important because the divers will feed off the home crowd.”
