Brits feel the heat in cliff dive opener

Jessica Macauley became the first British female to secure a podium position at the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series, which kicked off this weekend in Texas. 

Macauley, who was a wildcard entry to the event, finished second in only her second event in the World Series The 25-year-old secured her place on the podium with just her second dive, a back 3 somersaults, which broke the record for the highest scoring women’s dive ever. She was joined on the podium by Blake Aldridge who took third place in the men’s event.

Macauley finished on 302.10 point just 0.10 behind Mexican Adriana Jiminez, with Aldridge finishing on 389.25 points at the Possum Kingdom Lake in Hell’s Gate, Texas with fellow Brit Gary Hunt finishing eighth on 370.50.

More than 12,500 people gathered to watch the event which saw the women leap from 21m and the men from 27m in almost 40°C heats.
