Bronze medals for Couch and Daley in Beijing

Tonia Couch and Tom Daley won bronze medals in women’s and men’s 10m Platform finals on the last day of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series in Beijing.

The two medals on the last day means that the British Gas GBR Diving Team will fly on to the Dubai leg with three medals under their belts after Dan Goodfellow and Matty Lee landed 10m Synchro bronze on their World Series debut.

Couch, who was making her return from a dislocated knee, qualified for the final after finishing third in her semi final with a score of 341.60. Just ahead of team-mate Sarah Barrow who finished fourth in the semi final with 330.80.

In the final Couch performed a consistent list and got herself off to an ideal start with a score of 75.2 for her Back 2 ½ Somersaults 1 ½ Twists piked.

Couch secured her bronze medal with a total score of 357.90 just behind Olympic bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong Pamg (MAS) with a score of 368.50. The gold went to Huixia Liu (CHN) with 412.90 points.

Daley took to the final alongside Olympic champion David Boudia and Olympic silver medallist Qiu Bo and knew that he needed to pull out a strong performance.

The Olympic bronze medallist started his final with the Armstand Back Triple Somersault tucked for a score of 94.50 points.

Daley almost scored 100 points each for his final two dives. He secured 97.20 points for his Back 3 ½ Somersaults piked and 96.90 points for his Reverse 3 ½ Somersaults tucked. He won his bronze with a total of 525.05.

China’s Bo won the silver with 534.05 and team-mate Yuan Cao won gold after scoring almost 600 points – 579.45.

In the men’s 3m Springboard Jack Laugher finished sixth with a score of 476.05. Rebecca Gallantree finished in fourth place in her semi final of the women’s 3m Springboard with a score of 285.15.
