Couch and Ward make 10m Final

13 May 2016

Great Britain’s Tonia Couch and Georgia Ward progressed to the Women’s 10m Platform final at the LEN European Aquatics Championships.

Couch dived consistently throughout the five rounds to finish on top of the preliminary rankings with a score of 345.20.

“That was a good start this morning,” said Couch. “I said to my coach I just want to focus on myself and not worry about what everyone else is doing and hopefully.

“I came second at the World Series last month which does give me confidence. But coming in to this competition with expectations is a little bit scary.

“I just want to beat my score for tonight and see where that places me.”

London-based Georgia Ward will join her British team-mate in this evening’s platform final after making her individual debut at a European Aquatics Championships.

“It felt ok but I know I can do better,” said Ward. “I performed my new dive which was good but did make me a little nervous coming into this prelim.

“It was a steady set of dives and I made it through to this evenings final.

“Competing here at my home pool is crazy, having the support of the crowd is so good and it gives me so much more confidence.

The final will also feature the 2015 European Diving Champion, Iuliia Prokopchuk of Ukraine. Tonight’s action starts at 7:30pm and you can watch live on the BBC Red Button
