Divers touch down in Kiev for European Championships

5 Aug 2019

A team of 13 British divers have arrived in Kiev for the European Diving Championships, which begin on Monday 5 August.

Spearhead by six divers who were in action at last month’s World Championships in South Korea, the 13 strong team will be vying for medals in the Ukrainian capital, whilst also knowing that the winners of each event on the Olympic programme shall book their spots for Tokyo.

After a fourth place finish in the Women’s 1m Springboard at the global showdown just three weeks ago, Kat Torrance returns to action in her favoured 3m event, with a medal on her mind and a potential Olympic spot. She’ll be joined by British Champion Scarlett Mew Jensen, whilst on the men’s side fellow World Championship representatives James Heatly and Ross Haslam will be in action.

From the platform Noah Williams leads the way after making the final in Gwangju; he’ll once again contest the individual event as well at the Men’s 10m Synchro alongside Matthew Dixon. On the female side, young Eden Cheng continues to gain experience and will contest the Women’s 10m individual event alongside Gemma McArthur, whilst Emily Martin and Phoebe Banks will go in the Women’s 10m Synchro after winning silver in this event at last year’s World Junior Championships.

The championships, which will take place at the Sport Arena Liko in Kiev, run until Sunday 11th August, with Cheng, Torrance, Williams and Anthony Harding the first Brits in action on Monday afternoon in the Team Event.
