GBR claim Diving Championship trophy

On the final day of competition of the European Championships, the British Diving team claimed the overall Championships trophy.

The final session of competition was brought to a close by the final of the Men's 10m Platform final where GBR had two divers in action. Leeds-based Matty Lee battled hard in a contest with the Russians in the early rounds but slipped down the rankings after his final dive to finish with a score of 452.20.

"I'm a bit gutted I didn't make onto the podium especially after diving so well during the prelims this morning but that's diving and sport, unfortunately," explained Lee.

Teammate Matthew Dixon finished right behind Lee, he was ranked sixth after all six rounds of diving with a final score of 448.90.

“There’s been loads that I’ve learnt from this week. I’ve got a short break coming up now and then back to training in a few weeks, to learn new and harder dives and up scores for next year," said Dixon.

“Winning the team trophy was a really great way to round off the week and for the whole team to be up there celebrating was awesome.”

The 15-strong team finished the event with a total 237 points to secure the overall Championships trophy ahead of Russia with 212 points and Germany with 193.
