Hunt named 2019 FINA High Diver of the Year

10 Feb 2020

World champion Gary Hunt has been awarded the 'High Diving FINA Best Athlete of the Year' title for a fourth time in the last five years.

Having previously taken the accolade in 2015, 2016 and 2018, Hunt has again been recognised for his stunning form over the 2019 season in which he claimed victory at the two FINA events of the year, the FINA High Diving World Cup and the FINA World Championships.

The world championship crown secured in Gwangju was Hunts second in the discipline (having previously scored success when Kazan hosted the World Aquatics Championships in 2015), and it took a remarkable comeback dive to claim top spot on the podium in South Korea. From the the 27m platform, Hunt produced a stunning 156.00 point final dive Back 3 Somersaults 4 Twists (5268D) which saw him move from third to first.

The 2019 season also coincided with Hunt's eighth triumph on the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series circuit, in which he has been ever present since his debut in 2009.
