The second of Team GB’s Youth Olympic Games divers, Maria Papworth, finished fourth in the Women’s 3m Springboard.

Papworth placed 12th after the morning prelims, she delivered a consistent display of dives and ensured she would return for the final.

The Parque Polideportivo Roca played host to a hotly contested evening final that eventually saw the London-based diver end the competition 10.65 points off a podium finish and settled for fourth place overall.

Later Papworth said, “I’m gutted with fourth place. But I’ve increased my world ranking – I came fifth at the world championships so to go one better is a positive, but I feel like I should be up there on the podium,” said Papworth.

“I’ve got mixed feelings about how I dived this afternoon. I’m very happy with my mentality and the way I approached my diving, but technically things need a little bit more work.”

The medal were shared amongst three nations, gold went to Shan Lin of China (505.50), Russia’s Uliana Kliueva claimed the silver (445.05) and Bridget O’Neil will return to the USA with the bronze medal.
