Red Bull Cliff Diving – Bilboa round-up

2 Jul 2018

Britain’s Blake Aldridge narrowly missed out on a medal in the second leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Bilbao.

The 35-year finished fourth in the contest, less than nine points behind American David Colturi who finished in bronze medal position. Steve LoBue won the leg, with Mexican Jonathan Paredes in second.

Due to a strong performance in the first leg of the series Aldridge still remains in third place overall on 240 points, with Czech Michal Navratil second on 250 and LoBue in front on 270.

Fellow Brit Gary came in 10th having struggled with the conditions and leaving him 11th overall in the series.

The six-time series champion said: The competition started off very well. I did the best inward double half I’ve done all the year; from there it went downhill.

"I made a mistake on my armstand. It’s kind of tough seeing the water here, it’s all kind of dark, there’s no cliff face to judge the height so I’m definitely disappointed with my entry on my last dive.

"I’m not putting too much pressure on myself especially at the start this year; I’m practising some different dives without twisting. I’m trying to enjoy myself and we’ll see what happens.”
