Solid seven for GB in Calgary

British divers scooped up a solid seven medals at the second leg of the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Calgary, Canada this weekend.

British divers scooped up a solid seven medals at the second leg of the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Calgary, Canada this weekend.

Plymouth-based Matthew Dixon was the first to head to the podium for Great Britain, he clinched bronze in the Men’s 10m Platform with a total of 427.15 points. Kyle Kothari also dived alongside Dixon in the Canadian GP final and finished sixth with 248.50 points.

Phoebe Banks teamed up with Emily Martin for the Women’s 10m Synchro to claim GB’s second medal, a score of 240.54 points also bagging them the bronze. The opening day of competition was brought to a close by Yorkshire duo, Anthony Harding and Jordan Houlden, the pair sealing silver in the Men’s 3m Synchro.

British divers successfully claimed two pieces of medal hardware in the Men’s 3m Springboard, James Heatly and Dan Goodfellow taking silver and bronze respectively, the latter continuing his transition to the springboard.

Scarlett Mew Jensen then had a busy couple hours as the Grand Prix leg was brought to a close; she added two medals to her collection, the first a bronze alongside Maria Papworth-Burrell in the Women’s 3m Synchro, before winning silver in the Synchro equivalent. In the Women’s Synchro a tally of 268.50 points secured bronze, before Mew Jensen was joined by platform medallist Matthew Dixon, the duo recording a score of 275.10 points, which earnt them a splendid silver.

Unfortunately, Kyle Kothari picked up an injury whilst competing in Calgary and will not travel to Mission Viejo, USA for the next FINA Diving Grand Prix leg. We wish him a speedy recovery.
