Toulson secures Olympic quota spot with 10m final qualification

The two-time Olympian - a historic silver medallist alongside Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix from Sunday's 10m Synchro event - placed ninth in the individual semi-finals to reach tomorrow's final and meet that crucial top-12 criterion that secures a Paris quota place. 

Alongside Eden Cheng's victory at last month's European Games, that means both available slots have been secured in that event for British Diving. 

Lois showed fine composure across a packed few hours of diving at the Fukuoka Prefectural Pool, with a three-hour prelims session in the morning quickly followed by the semi-finals. 

Doing what she needed to do to get out of the prelims, Toulson stepped things up in the next session, and after scoring 61.60 points for her second-round Reverse 2 1/2 Somersaults Tuck (305C), she did not drop out of the all-important top 12 places. 

The highlight was her fourth-round Inward 3 1/2 Somersaults Tuck (407C), worth 67.20, before the Leeds British Diving Performance Centre athlete completed the job in round five, closing on 313.50 points, enough for ninth overall. 

"It means a lot [to qualify the unnamed Olympic quota place]. That was the aim of today, to get the job done, so to do it and to do some pretty good dives in there and be pretty steady throughout the day, I'm really happy," said Lois. 

"Through the day, it's just trusting the process and know that all the hard work has already been done. So you just have to try to dig deep and push through. I'd like to think I can do those dives in my sleep, even though they are quite mentally challenging for me - so to do them all and no major misses, I'm happy with that."

Spendolini-Sirieix, who had secured that Women's 10m Synchro silver with Toulson a couple of days earlier, just missed out on a spot in the individual final after finishing 13th. 

In those busy prelims, Andrea had produced some brilliant dives to qualify third for the semi-finals - but she could not quite find the same consistency of entries in the semis, despite opening the round well with 72.00 points from her armstand dive. 

Wednesday is a busy day for the British team. Jordan Houlden and Dan Goodfellow begin their Men's 3m Springboard campaigns, with the prelims starting at 1am BST and the semi-final getting underway at 7.30am BST. After that, Lois will go in the Women's 10m Platform final at 10am BST.
