Athlete of the Year Nominee: Siobhan-Marie O’Connor

19 Oct 2016

The British Swimming Awards 2016 are fast approaching as we profile the first of our athlete of the year nominees, Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.

2016 represented another fantastic year on the world stage for Siobhan.  Building on her World bronze medal in 2015, Siobhan went one better with an impressive silver medal in the 200 Individual Medley in Rio almost catching the overwhelming favourite Katinka Hosszu in the process.

Siobhan twice broke her own British record on route to her medal winning performance and was able to move her time on from heat to semi to final.

Her time of 2:06.88 was nearly a second-and-a-half quicker than the record before the Games and only the fifth sub 2:07 ever for the event.

Siobhan also swam in the 4x200 Freestyle relay in Rio and swam the butterfly leg of the women’s 4x100 Medley relay that broke the British record in the final.

The winner of the Swimming Athlete of the Year award is decided by our panel of judges and will announced during the British Swimming Awards in London on 5 November.
