Brits sign off from Doha with four medals

British swimmers Ben Proud and James Guy secured a further four medals at the Doha leg of the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup.

Guy (Millfield) led the way with three medals, two silver and a bronze at the meet in Qatar. His first silver came in the Men’s 400m Freestyle as he touched home second flanked by Myles Brown of South Africa first and Australian Bobby Hurley in third.

Proud (Plymouth Leander) rounded off the opening day in Doha with silver also in the Men’s 50m Butterfly. Only South Africa’s Chad Le Clos finished ahead of proud to take the gold and Japan’s Takeshi Kawamoto rounded off the medal berths in third.

Guy picked up a further silver in the Men’s 200m Freestyle with Le Clos of South Africa topping the podium. The pair were joined by Hong Kong’s Chun Nam Derick Ng who claimed the bronze.

Proud rounded off the action in the Qatari capital with silver in the Men’s 50m Freestyle. Russia’s Vladimir Morozov took gold and Proud nudged Chad Le Clos of South Africa into the bronze medal berth.

The FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup moves on to Asia next weekend and will see both Guy and Proud back in the water along with Sarah Vasey (City of Derby).
