Burnell best in Chun’An

Great Britain’s Jack Burnell took gold in the Men’s 10km race at the seventh leg of the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series 2018 taking place in Chun’An, China.

Burnell completed the swim in just under two hours (1:56:34.8) and it was his first podium-topping performance of the 2018 Series after two earlier podiums finishes, silver in the Seychelles and bronze Setubal, Portugal.

The minor medal went to Germany’s Rob Muffels (silver) and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri (bronze) who is the reigning Olympic and world champion in the 1500m free.

Also in action for Great Britain at the penultimate leg of the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series was Tobias Robinson, he ranked 12th overall.

Over in the Women’s 10km, Jazz Carlin had to withdraw from the race part way round the course due to illness.

The final race of the season will take place in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi on 9th November.
