Davies, Guy and Scott back in competition after Glasgow golds

6 Aug 2018

Georgia Davies, James Guy and Duncan Scott were both back in action at Glasgow 2018 this morning after winning golds last night.

The 21-year-old Scot was up in the first event of the day, the 200m freestyle, qualifying for the semi-finals in 11th, alongside James Guy who was fourth fastest. Fellow 4 x 200m free medal winners Cameron Kurle and Calum Jarvis were also in action in this event coming 35th and 15th respectively in the huge field of 62 athletes.

Davies, fresh from a European Record and gold medal over the 50m distance showed she still had more to come in the 100m backstroke, coming third in her heat and fourth overall. She is joined by Kathleen Dawson progressing to the semis, with Cassie Wild the third quickest Brit in 20th.

Ben Proud was in action for the first time during the Europeans, in the 50m butterfly, qualifying second, behind reigning champion Andriy  Govorov, after winning his heat. But Proud admitted he was trying out a new racing style during this performance.

"I just went back and looked over the whole race plan to make sure I was controlled off the block, controlled in the dive and controlled in the swimming.

"I wanted to do 18 strokes, and I think I've done it, where normally I would do 19. It was a good swim but I just want to get through the rounds.

"The Europeans are not easy to get through the rounds, but I felt I could take those smaller risks to see what I could do."

He was joined by Nicholas Pyle, Charlotte Atkinson and Freya Anderson in the preliminaries, with a performance that saw Great Britain progress to the finals this evening.

Molly Renshaw put in a solid performance in the 200m breaststroke to qualify fifth for the semi-finals this evening, closely followed by Chloe Tutton in her heat who qualified eighth fastest overall.
