The countdown to April's massive British Swimming Championships continues this weekend as the Edinburgh International Swim Meet gets underway for three days of racing action (8th-10th March).
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Edinburgh International will once again serve as the final major racing opportunity for many athletes ahead of next month's British Championships, the key Olympic and Paralympic selection event for Paris 2024, with a host of Paris hopefuls ready to take to the blocks.
Among those set to take to the Royal Commonwealth Pool waters are Loughborough Performance Centre duo Laura Stephens and Freya Colbert, who both reached the top step of the podium at the recent World Aquatics Championships in Doha - both competing in three events over the coming days as they further fine-tune their race processes at this crucial time of the season.
Duncan Scott is one of the busiest swimmers in the programme, slated to race across six events - the Men's 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 100m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke - while Paralympic medallist and S12 100m Butterfly world-record holder Stephen Clegg is ready to continue his build-up to British Championships across the 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke events, with Faye Rogers and Poppy Maskill among other medallists from last year's Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester who are diving into action in Edinburgh this weekend.
There are some intriguing men's and women's backstroke races to come at the British Championships, and Kathleen Dawson - who has overcome injury issues since becoming an Olympic gold medallist at Tokyo 2020 - and Medi Harris are both involved in the latter this weekend, off the back of World Championship involvement in Doha.
The international element of this meet provides even greater competition for every swimmer focused on testing their recent training work in a bid to being primed and ready come 2nd April and the opening day at the London Aquatics Centre.
