European Juniors take on mighty French in open water challenge

Polly Holden has completed her Europeans competition preparation with a fourth place finish in the 10km open water junior championships in Malta.

Polly is one of two athletes competing in both the Junior and Senior Open Water events this summer, alongside Hector Pardoe who finished seventh in the 7.5km event.

Team mates George Barber finished in 32nd with Max Jelfs in 36th.

In the 10km race Phoebe Griffiths came in 14th place in the girls' discipline,  with  Nathan Hughes 19th and Jamie Scholes 21st  in the boys' race.

In the 5km race Lewis Binning's time saw him in 17th position, with Iona Macleod 20th in the girls' event. 

The four day event saw France clinch four of the six titles on offer. The relay events on the last day had to be cancelled though due to bad weather.

The European senior open water championships will be part of Glasgow 2018, and run from the 8th to 12th of August at Loch Lomond.
