Miley announced as Euro Swim 2019 Ambassador

Triple Olympian Hannah Miley has today been confirmed as the Official Ambassador for the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships that come to Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre later this year.

Taking place between 4-8 December 2019, spectators will watch as European champions are crowned over five days of rip-roaring action in Glasgow, with swimmers competing in 40 short course events. Held every two years, the championships will take on further importance in 2019, as it will mark the the event’s 20th edition.

As for Hannah Miley, she is one of the most decorated British swimmers of all time, having won multiple 400m Individual Medley titles at British, European and Commonwealth level. Miley’s resumé also includes world silver, whilst her fourth place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympics was just shy of medal.

Closer to home, the Aberdeen swimmer won bronze at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, her sixth medal at that event, whilst the Gold Coast 2018 Commonweatlh Games was Miley’s fourth outing for Team Scotland, where she returned as 400m IM silver medallist.

With tickets now on sale for Glasgow 2019, it was clear that ‘Smiley Miley’, as she is affectionately known, was relishing the prospect of competing at the highest level in Scotland once more.

“I’m really excited that Scotland has the opportunity to host another major international sporting event and I think as a nation we’ve shown over the last few years that we can put on a great show. Competing in front of a home crowd is such a special experience that is hard to put into words – it’s great that we’ve got another opportunity to look forward to later this year.”

Tickets for the event went on-sale on Monday 4th March and with the first week’s sales going well, the championships are set to be a cornerstone event in Scotland’s 2019 sporting calendar.

Short course swimming is a fast-paced event and is guaranteed to have crowds energised from start to finish. Races are competed in a 25m pool, requiring swimmers to complete more turns, so crowds will see competitive, adrenaline-fuelled races – setting up this event as one of the most exciting of the year.
