Litchfield signals intent in home pool

Sheffield’s own Max Litchfield cruised to a heats victory to qualify fastest for tonight’s 400m individual Medley final on the third day of action at t he British Championships. 

The City of Sheffield swimmer is back in action after a successful 2016 season that saw him make history at his debut Olympic Games and take the short course World title last December in the 400 IM.

He took on his brother Joe in the final heat and the pair secured their places in the final. They are joined by Richard Nagy (City of Sheffield) and Mark Szaranek (Edinburgh University).

Olympic silver medallist Siobhan-Marie O'Connor stole the win in her heat on the touch to finish first in the 50m Freestyle. She will swim again in tonight's final against Anna Hopkin (Ealing) and Lucy Hope (Edinburgh University) in the fastest race of the night. 

Olympic medallist Duncan Scott scored the first position in the 100m Freestyle final after a storming swim saw him dominate the field. Scott will face off against Loughborough University's Adam Barrett and Edinburgh University's Jack Thorpe in the final. 

Charlotte Atkinson (Loughborough University) was back in action after her British title win in the Women's 50m Butterfly. She's in charge in the 200m Butterfly after leading the way in the heats.
