Payne and Burnell ready for Marathon challenge

The successful pool swimming programme has drawn to a close and attention now moves to Copacabana as the marathon swimming programme kicks off on Monday (15 August). 

Swimmers Keri-anne Payne and Jack Burnell will compete against the world's best in the 10km races as they challenge for medals. 

Payne has the experience of two Olympic Games under her belt and has focused all of her training on the marathon swimming event this summer. The 2008 Olympic silver medallist won the Rio 2016 test event in September 2015. 

Burnell is making his Olympic debut and has shown his calibre in the marathon swimming event throughout the last quadrennial. He finished fifth at the World Championships in 2015 to be the first athlete to secure a named quota place for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. 

The women's 10km kicks off on Monday 15 August at 1pm BST with the men's race taking place om Tuesday 16 August at 1pm BST.
