Adam Peaty's quest to become a three-time quadruple European champion took a step closer this morning with a record breaking swim in the heats.

Double Glasgow 2018 champion Adam Peaty, who now has 10 European golds to his name, broke the Championship record in his 50m breaststroke heat, coming home in a time of 26.50.

Ross Murdoch, who faced disappointment in the 200m breaststroke last night, showed no signs of fatigue this morning winning his heat and qualifying 9th fastest for the semis. Double silver medalist James Wilby missed out in 11th place due to only two swimmers progressing from each nation.

Abbie Wood faced the same situation as Loughborough team mate Wilby as she was eliminated from the 200m IM despite a strong swim that saw her finish just behind Hannah Miley. However this wasn't enough to see the 400m IM medalist progess either due to Siobhan Marie O'Connor and Aimee Willmott both winning their heats. O'Connor was second quickest qualifier behind Hungary's Katinka Hosszu.

Teenager Brodie Williams was the fastest Brit in the 200m backstroke heats, qualifying fifth overall. With Luke Greenbank taking the second British spot in ninth. Craig McNally was third fastest Brit in 13th with all three home swimmers facing off in the same heat.

Following on from Britain's strong relay performances the Women's 4x200m freestyle team of Kat Greenslade, Ellie Faulkner, Lucy Hope and Holly Hibbott comfortably won their heat and came second fastest overall. They will contend their medal this evening.

Freya Anderson and Anna Hopkin both progressed to the semis of the 100m freestyle in 6th and 16th respectively.

Tom Derbyshire secured a personal best time in the 800m freestlye swim of 7:58.26 but this was not enough to see him make the final tonight, coming in 16th overall. Jay Lelliot came in one place behind in 17th.
