Prime Minister congratulates Peaty and Carlin

British Prime Minister Theresa May has congratulated Adam Peaty and Jazz Carlin on becoming Team GB's first Olympic medallists. 

After securing Team GB's first medals of the Rio 2016 Olympics, gold for Adam Peaty in the Men's 100m Breaststroke and silver for Jazz Carlin in the Women's 400m Freestyle, they received a personal message of congratulations from British Prime Minister Theresa May.

"Many Congratualtions to Adam Peaty and Jazz Carlin for winning Team GB's first medals at Rio 2016.

"I hope their success will inspire many more of the UK's world class team to fulfill their potential and bring home a medal, just as all those who are competing for the UK in Rio are an inspiration to many more youngsters back home.

"The coming fortnight reminds us all that with the right support, determination and dedication you can get as far as your talents will take you.

"The whole country wishes the team good luck and great success. We are proud of you."
