Proud breaks 50m Free British record

Plymouth Leander’s Ben Proud delivered a blistering morning swim in the final heat of the 50m Freestyle as he posted a new British record time of 21.65 to sail into tonight’s final in lane four.

Andrew Weatheritt (Loughborough University) and Thomas Fannon also of Plymouth Leander will flank Proud in this evening’s 50m Freestyle line up.

After claiming two British titles so far in 2016, Jazz Carlin (National Centre Bath) looked strong in the concluding heat of the Women’s 400m Freestyle. That swim sends her through to this evening’s final in lane four.

City of Sheffield swimmer Eleanor Faulkner posted the second fastest time of the morning to also secure herself in tonight’s open final. Carlin and Faulkner will be joined by 2016 Championships medallist Georgia Coates (City of Leeds).

Following a strong line up of athletes it was Mark Szaranek (University of Ediniburgh) who came out on top to secure the lead position in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley title deciding swim later day.

City of Cardiff swimmer Ieuan Lloyd ranks second after his heats swim and Roberto Pavoni (Loughborough University) came progresses in third.

Newly-crowned British 100m Freestyle champion Siobhan-Marie O’Connor was comfortably the quickest qualifier into the Women’s 200m Individual Medley final this evening.

O’Connor (National Centre, Bath) took her heat out fast and finished strongly to win with two fellow British champions from Glasgow behind her in second and third.

British 200m Butterfly champion Aimee Willmott (London Aquatics Centre Performance Programme) was second quickest and 400m Individual Medley title holder Hannah Miley (Garioch) was third.
