Records fall at winter meet

Rio 2016 Olympians Molly Renshaw and Tim Shuttleworth broke British Short Course records at the ASA Winter Meet in Sheffield this weekend.

Newly crowned World Champion Renshaw set a new British record in the 200m Breaststroke.

The Loughborough-based swimmer ducked under her previous record time by half a second, touching 2:17.98 for gold.

“It’s nice to come here and swim with a little less pressure than the World Short Course Championships in Canada. Hopefully this has got the momentum going for 2017, and I’m hoping my long course season will be just as good.”

Shuttleworth broke the British record in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle on day three of the ASA Winter Meet.

The Loughborough swimmer shaved eight seconds from the previous record, which was set in 2004, lowering his own personal best time by 17 seconds. He made it to the wall in 14:24.00.

“I had the race plan to go into it. I kept my legs low in the first 100 and then just built into the race. I knew I was in good shape and I can here to get as close to it as I could, that was the game plan.”
