Brits enjoy success in Berlin

The British contingent in Berlin secured seven gold medals from the A finals at the Berlin Open over the four day competition. 

The Berlin Open, which was the final leg of the 2017 World Para-Swimming World Series events, saw the British athletes taking on some of the best swimmers from throughout the world.

Throughout the four-day competition, the British contingent were in record-breaking form as they broke 10 world records to back up their medal winning performances.

Paralympic medallist Tom Hamer won three gold medals throughout his campaign as he won the sprint Freestyle including the 200m which he won silver in at the Paralympic Games. Hamer finished his 200m Freestyle in a time of 1:57.70.

Paralympic Champion Ollie Hynd sealed victories in his two main events when took the gold medals in the 400m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley. He secured a time of 4:23.06 in the Freestyle and touched in 2:25.00 in the Individual Medley.

Gold medals also came from Jonathan Fox (50m Backstroke), Alice Tai (100m Backstroke) and Ellie Robinson (50m Butterfly).

Fox also secured silver in the 100m Backstroke and Tai also won silver in the 100m Butterfly and was joined on the podium by Toni Shaw.

Bethany Firth won silver in the 200m Freestyle and bronze in the 100m Freestyle. Hannah Russell took silver in the 100m Freestyle and bronze in the 50m Backstroke while Maisie Summers-Newton won the silver in the 200m Individual Medley.

Jessica-Jane Applegate won bronze in the 400m Freestyle and clocked a new S14 World record in the process when she touched in 4:27.08.

Stephen Clegg won the bronze in the 50m Butterfly and scored a world S12 world standard when he touched n 26.01.
